Onam Celebration

On 2nd October,2023, the spirit of Onam came to life at St. Francis De Sales Public School ICSE &ISC as students, teachers, and staff joined together to celebrate this cherished festival. The event was a delightful blend of tradition, culture, and festivity.

The heart of the Onam celebration was undoubtedly the stunning ‘Pookalam’, also known as the Flower Carpet. The colourful tapestry of flowers not only added a visual spectacle but also filled the air with the sweet fragrance of fresh blossoms.

One of the highlights of the celebration was the spectacular recreation of the scene of Mahabali, the legendary king whose memory Onam commemorates. Students dressed in colourful attire, with King Mahabali and Vamana as the centre of attention, added an authentic touch to the festivities. The celebration was further elevated by enchanting ‘Onappattu’ performances. It was a heartwarming display of the rich cultural heritage of Kerala. An enchanting and graceful addition to our Onam celebration was the mesmerizing ‘Thiruvathira’ dance performance by our graceful teachers.

The celebrations concluded with the ‘Pulikali’ also known as Tiger Dance performance, which was one of the most exhilarating and visually captivating aspects of the Onam celebration. Students, dressed as colourful tigers, adorned with vibrant costumes, transformed into the majestic big cats. The pulsating beats of traditional percussion instruments provided the backdrop as the 'tigers' showcased their agility and enthusiasm, much to the delight of the audience.

The Onam celebration was indeed a resounding success, bringing together the school community to rejoice in the essence of this beautiful festival. It was a day filled with colours, tradition, and togetherness, leaving everyone with cherished memories and a deep appreciation for the cultural significance of Onam.
