Kengal Hanumanthaiah, the second chief minister of Karnataka is credited as the force behind this building; which was constructed to centralize the various Government departments under one roof.
This Neo-Dravidian architecture sprawling building and its surroundings occupy 60 acres. The then Prime Minister Sri Pandit Jawaharalal Nehru laid the foundation of this building on 13th July 1951. It was completed in the year 1956 as a result of relentless work of thousands of workers with an expenditure of Rs 1.84 crores.
Under strict vigilance the students entered Assembly Hall and sat in the galley to watch the Session. It was a practical learning for them as they encountered the discussion between the ruling party and the opposition to understand certain concepts of the Civics chapters.
