Kindergarten

A Joyful Beginning to Lifelong Learning

Learning at SFS Kindergarten

The early years are among the most important stages in a child’s development. At SFS Kindergarten, children are welcomed into a warm, nurturing and curiosity-driven environment where learning happens naturally through exploration, interaction and play.

The programme is child-centred and follows a play-way and activity-based approach. Children participate in teacher-guided activities, small-group learning, independent exploration and creative experiences.

Kindergarten consists of three sections:

Three years, three sections

Ages 3 – 4

Pre-Nursery

Ages 4 – 5

LKG

Ages 5 – 6

UKG

Learning Areas

The curriculum addresses the whole child rather than a subject list.

01

Communication & Language

Listening, speaking and the confidence to be understood.

02

Literacy Development

The beginnings of reading and writing, at each child’s pace.

03

Mathematics

Number and problem solving, handled concretely before abstractly.

04

Knowledge of the World

How things work, where things come from, and why.

05

Personal, Social & Emotional

Sharing, waiting, naming a feeling – the hardest curriculum of the three years.

06

Expressive Arts

Music, dance and design, taught as ways of thinking rather than decoration.

07

Physical Development

Gross and fine motor skill, built through daily activity and Desfida each year.

Enrichment

Alongside the curriculum, children take hobby-based activities – drawing, painting, origami, paper crafts and puppet-making.

Four events anchor the kindergarten year and give every child something to prepare for and somebody to perform in front of:

Sankalp, the UKG graduation, closes the three years. Totsporium, a kindergarten exhibition, gives families a look at what the children have made.
